App RIM to Remove Side-loading Capability in Future BlackBerry PlayBook OS Update

RIM to Remove Side-loading Capability in Future BlackBerry PlayBook OS Update playbook-sideload

A rumor had been circulating that Research In Motion would be removing the side-loading capabilities in an upcoming BlackBerry PlayBook update. RIM’s VP of Developer Relations, Alec Saunders, confirmed over Twitter that this is the company’s decision for PlayBook OS 2.1.

Alec later went on to comment as to the reason for ending side-loading as, “piracy is a huge problem for Android devs, and we don’t want to duplicate the chaotic cesspool of Android market.” Alec says they have a working solution for developers. Could this solution be a form of Over-The-Air (OTA) installation of apps?

Or, perhaps they plan to allow developers to easily add beta testers to their sandbox accounts in App World. Whichever the case may be, to those who have been pirating Android apps: your days of doing so are getting smaller and smaller.
