BlackBerry 10 Smartphones to Use Qualcomm S4 Pro Chipset? (August,2012)

Way back in the beginning of this year while we were at CES in January, we spotted Research In Motion’s logo on the backdrop during Qualcomm’s keynote. This keynote was for the announcement of the S4 chipset (at the time it was the MSM8960) and the backdrop was to show OEMs who would be using the new chipset. It was pretty convincing even then that RIM would be using the S4 chipset family for BlackBerry 10 devices.A new rumor suggests BlackBerry 10 smartphones will be using the MSM8960T (S4 Pro), which is the natural evolution of the MSM8960. It only makes sense for RIM to have dumped the original MSM8960 and move onto the next iteration since they delayed BlackBerry 10 devices and by the time BB10 releases the MSM8960 would have been outdated. The Qualcomm S4 MSM8960T is quite impressive with Bluetooth 4.0, 802.11a/b/g/n (2.4/5 GHz), and multiband support for global compatibility across networks (LTE FDD/TDD CAT3, SVLTE-DB, TD-SCDMA, Rel9 DC-HSPA+, GSM/GPRS/EDGE, EGAL, 1x Adv., 1x EV-DO Rev. A/B ) all packed into one chipset. No matter which iteration of the chipset RIM intends to use, one thing is certain that RIM will likely use the S4 chipset family. This just makes us have a smile from ear to ear.Image from CES 2012, courtesy of BGRvia BBOS
