A few months back a Canada based company by the name BBM Canada sued Research in Motion over the BBM trademark. BBM Canada has had the BBM trademark for over 60 years, making this an even harder case to win. Here’s what RIM said:âWe are pleased that the Federal Court of Canada sided with RIM and confirmed that RIMâs use of BBM does not infringe the trademark rights of BBM Canada as they had alleged,â RIM spokeswoman Tenille Kennedy said. The result of this legal battle has come as great news to RIM and BlackBerry users, losing the BBM trademark would’ve had huge consequences that would’ve been hard to recover from.via Globe and Mail
