Some have speculated that the launch of the BlackBerry PlayBook was ultimately a large-scale beta test for the QNX operating system. What ever the fact may be, it will be in Research In Motion’s favor. In an interview with CNET, Alec Saunders, VP of developer relations at RIM said, “RIM intends to launch its [BlackBerry 10] OS with more apps than any other first-generation operating system.”At this stage, Windows phone is the only contender for the title. Since iOS and Android barely had app stores at their launch. This is why Alec and his team have been hosting BlackBerry Jam sessions throughout the world to pull in new developers to the BlackBerry 10 platform.Microsoft is definitely RIM’s largest threat at this point in time. Wireless carriers are urging for a third mobile ecosystem in the market, with BlackBerry and Windows Phone meeting neck and neck. Let’s hope RIM can reach their goal by gaining the title of the most apps at launch for a new operating system.
