As the title alludes, for this WTFact we tell you how Mike Lazaridis, Research In Motion’s co-founder, took a page right out of Microsoft founder, Bill Gates’, life story. That is, like many of the successful visionary Billionaires of today, Mike Lazaridis dropped out of college to pursue his ventures. However, following the success of RIM and BlackBerry, Mike later earned an honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD) degree from McMaster Universityâs Faculty of Engineering in 2000.âMr. Lazaridisâ achievements are an inspiration,â said Mo Elbestawi, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, McMaster University. âHe reflects what can be accomplished through vision, inventiveness, dedication and determination. He also demonstrates the role engineering plays in developing a strong and vibrant society. RIM has been a strong supporter of the faculty.âPerhaps, you truly do not require a college degree, but merely innovation and the drive to be successful? Where do you think RIM and Mike Lazaridis would be today if he had stayed in University? Sound off in the comments!
