Indian carrier Airtel has just lauched its own official app for Blackberry users.  With the ability to check your bill statement, recharge amounts, make payments, and submit complaints all on their BlackBerry, subscribers should be able to manage their mobile and fixed telephone lines directly from their smartphones.  With the rapid rise of smartphone usage in India, mobile apps are becoming more attractive solutions than the traditional browser-based account management. In a statement from K Srinivas, the President of Consumer Business, he stated,“Data consumption in India has seen a sharp uptake. Today, Indian customers are increasingly accessing online content through cool apps as opposed to the conventional route of logging through browsers. In tune with these changes, we are pleased to launch our intuitive ‘my airtel’ app that has been designed to empower our customers and help them manage all their airtel services, effortlessly. The app comes with a smart layer of intelligence that will allow our customers to discover, access and self-manage a slew of services.”The free app can be downloaded directly from BlackBerry App World or by SMSing ‘myairtel’ to 54321.  The app allows the management of multiple devices upon registration when the app is first launched. The app has been released for Android and Symbian platforms as well, with iOS support coming later on.  With Android, Nokia and RIM being the top smartphone suppliers in India, the decision to support these platforms first makes sense.Source: NDTV
